William Edwin Martin (“Ed”) 93, of Southbury, CT, died on June 19, 2021, at the Woodlands at Pomperaug Woods. He was born on July 8, 1927, in Foxboro, MA, to the late Jane Katharine Lyon Martin and Robert Harlow Martin, Sr.
Ed grew up in Mamaroneck, NY. He joined the Navy during his senior year of high school and served in the Pacific Theatre near the end of World War II. Following the War, he completed high school and attended Oklahoma State University, earning a degree in Civil Engineering. He met Susan Driscoll in 1950 and they married in 1951, eventually settling in Stratford, CT, where he spent the bulk of his career at Remington/DuPont and he and Susan raised their family. They retired to West Suffield, CT, and spent many years at their beloved lake home before moving to Pomperaug Woods. His passions were his family, landscaping, cooking, history, and reading.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Susan Driscoll Martin; children David Martin (Miriam), Ellen Martin (Jeff), and Janice Martin Ganetsky (Glenn): six grandchildren Rachel Hall, Nathan Hyde, Alexa Martin, Rosalie Martin, Dakota Martin, and Eric Ganetsky; one great grandson, Woodrow Louis Hall; a sister, Jane Martin Tripp; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Robert H. Martin, Jr., and David Noel Martin.
Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home in Woodbury, CT, is managing the arrangements. Graveside services with military honors are being held Thursday, June 24, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Gates of Heaven in Hawthrone, NY. The Martin Family invites everyone attending the burial ceremony to lunch at a local restaurant immediately following the ceremony. Details will be provided on site.
