In Loving Memory of William John Gildea
Southbury- William John Gildea (Bill), age 80, of Southbury, CT, formerly of Shoreham, NY, passed away on March 15, 2024. He was the beloved husband to Sandra (Muller) Gildea, and loving father to Lynn and Beth. William was born on September 22, 1943, in Jamaica, NY, to the late William F. and Lorraine Gildea.
Bill was a proud graduate of Port Jefferson High School in New York, Class of 1961, and Suffolk Community College. He went on to have a successful career in finance, working for Marine Midland Bank, Union Savings Bank, and Gildea and Ivanis CPAs.
On November 27, 1965, Bill married Sandy and they shared 58 wonderful years together. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and he found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren. His hobbies included woodworking, a craft in which he was very proud of. He loved sharing his creations and making things for family and friends.
William is survived by his cherished wife, Sandra, daughters Lynn Gildea Stubbe and Beth Gildea Harpel, grandchildren Shannon, Lyla, Riley, and Zachary, sons-in-law Douglas Stubbe and Daniel Harpel, brothers Richard Gildea, Scott Gildea and sister Kathy-Lynn Gildea Herschcovitch, as well as a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
A compassionate, dedicated and fun loving man, Bill believed in the importance of family bonds and treasured moments of shared laughter and camaraderie, playing jokes, and family gatherings. His infectious smile, kind heart, and adept capabilities in fixing things will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A private ceremony to honor and remember William will be held by his family, at a later date.
