Walter Crawford Obituary

Woodbury

Walter “Ted” Crawford, husband, father and grandfather.

Ted recently passed away at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. He was born on February 24, 1951 in New Haven, CT.

He was the son of the late Raymond and Dorothy Ann Crawford and grandson of the late famed artist Eugene F. Savage and Dr. Matilda Savage. He leaves behind his wife Julie of 51 years, son Ted and wife Nancy and grandkids Emily and Sean Crawford. His beloved chocolate lab, his brother in law Gary Lang and his wife Kathy as well as many cousins and great friends. He also leaves a brother Gene Crawford and his wife Marianne.

Ted moved with his parents to Woodbury at age 2 from Middlebury. He attended schools in Woodbury and graduated in 1969. It was at Woodbury High School where he met his future wife. During his younger years he owned horses and after school he and other likeminded friends would set off on the trails in town.

He received his BS and MS at Western Connecticut University. His greatest passion besides his family was fishing. You could always find Ted with one of his many friends and family on open day of trout fishing ready to catch the big one. He caught the bug of salt water fishing while spending many summers camping at Charlestown Breachway in RI.

He was a car and motorcycle enthusiasts having owned 43 motorcycles and many muscle cars, 4 x 4's, and boats.

He loved waterskiing, snow skiing, all forms of boating and golf. He was drummer and played in numerous rock bands over the years.

Ted enjoyed many winters in St. Thomas and summers at Lake Quassapaug.

He was a juvenile diabetic type 1 for 63 years and despite his many struggles with the disease he always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He was always ready to listen anyone’s problems regardless of what it was and do his best to help.
