Victor Leidel, 98, of Woodbury, Connecticut passed away New Year’s Eve morning, December 31, 2020. Always living with a zest for life, his goal was to live to 100 but sadly he was taken early by the coronavirus. He was the husband of the late Violet (Holmgren) Leidel. Mr. Leidel was born March 23, 1922 in North Bergen, New Jersey. The son of Herman and Matilda (Meyerhans) Leidel. He attended Ridgefield Park High School.
Mr. Leidel was a WWII decorated Army veteran serving 2 years in Europe from the Normandy invasion to the surrender of Germany in May of 1945. He was a member of the Army Reserves and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel receiving the Meritorious Service Medal in 1975.
He graduated from New York University and New York University School of Law. He was a certified public accountant in New York City where he was employed by national accounting firms. Upon moving to Waterbury he became a partner in the firm of Meyerhans and Leidel and practiced for many years. He was a member of the Waterbury Lions Club serving as secretary and president and was a member of the Second Congregational Church.
He moved to Woodbury in 1955 and became a member of the North Congregational Church. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Leidel of Woodbury and many friends.
There will be no calling hours or service until the spring when a celebration of life will be held with military honors at New North Cemetery.
