Sylvia Albert Obituary

The family of Sylvia Albert is heartbroken to announce her death on January 18th, 2023 at the age of 89.

Sylvia was born in Plymouth, MA on May 17th, 1933 to Bessie (Hurwitz) Meisel and Eli Meisel. She attended Girl’s Latin and the Hickox Executive School. Despite living in Connecticut for over 60 years, she never lost her Boston accent.

Thanks to the matchmaking efforts of her sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia met the love of her life, Burton Albert, on the beach in Westhampton, New York.  Their 61 years together were filled with love, respect, and amazing adventures.

Spending time with her family was Sylvia’s number one priority.  She was a fierce protector of all generations while holding her family accountable to high standards. Her unconditional love and guidance were motivating and nourishing. Together with Burt, she attended every major moment in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives.

Sylvia was known for her savvy and shrewd business sense, excellent values, speaking her mind, trendy fashion flair, intelligence, and gourmet cooking.  She was stylish, creative, extremely detailed, and fiscally responsible.  Sylvia had the gift of gab and the trademark pace of a tortoise.  She loved to travel and was generous with her time and resources. Sylvia was passionate about Judaism, Israel, the latest technology (especially gadgets), shopping, bargain hunting and Mah Jong. She was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and enjoyed volunteering.  The secret ingredients to her longevity included daily consumption of bacon, corn, salad, and Snickers Bars.

Sylvia was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother.  She is survived by her children, Eric Albert, Jonathan Albert and Debbie Rosmarin; her daughters-in-law, Jan Albert and Rachel Albert; her son-in-law, David Rosmarin; her grandchildren, Lindsay Blumberg and her husband Jared, Jamie Albert and her husband Steven Berkowitz, Sarah Albert and her husband Matthew Cantatore, Jake Albert and his fiancée Alison Garoon; Sami Albert; Remi, Eli and Ben Rosmarin; and her great-grandchildren, Shai Blumberg, Maya Berkowitz and Luca Cantatore. She is also survived by many cherished family members and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Burton Albert, and her sister, Barbara Fox.

Sylvia’s funeral and burial will be private for the immediate family.  Shiva will be observed at 7:00 PM at B’nai Israel Synagogue in Southbury on Thursday, January 19th.  Donations in Sylvia’s memory may be made to The Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut, B’nai Israel in Southbury, or The United Way of Greater Waterbury.

Sylvia’s family is grateful to her physicians; particularly, Dr. Paul Kelly, Dr. Leslie Coopersmith and Dr. Peter Jacoby for their exemplary care and kindness.

Towards the end of her life, Sylvia received loving care from an extraordinary group of caregivers.  Her family would like to thank Morgan Barry, Mary Landry, Terry Madgic, Kim Rybinski, Jeanne Vichioli and Jean Wengertsman and her company, Compassionate Companions, for treating Sylvia like a member of their own families.

There are no words to express how greatly Sylvia will be missed by her family who have loved and cherished her throughout her life.
