Ruthann Springer Obituary

Ruthann Cooper Lawton Springer, 75, of Southbury, passed peacefully and courageously at home on May 19, 2021 after a battle with acute myeloid leukemia.

Ruthann was born May 16, 1946 at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA, to overjoyed parents, Ruth R Beaulac and Manford E Cooper. She was beloved by her grandparents Mildred Bancroft Cooper and Manford Cooper and Adeline Potvin Beaulac and William J Beaulac. She graduated from Westboro High School with high honors in 1964 and Summa Cum Laude in 1966 from Bryant College, where she was a member of the key club and National Honor Society. She worked as an administrative assistant in the manufacturing field until she retired in 2002 to help care for her grandson, Jacob. Ruthann’s greatest desire in life was to be a mother, and her wishes became a reality on August 11, 1971. Sadly, she was predeceased by her son, who passed away shortly after his birth. She went on to have two more children with her former husband, David J Lawton, and two stepchildren with her current husband, Russell P Springer. Ruthann’s true joy came from her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She loved them with all her heart. Ruthann made friends wherever she went, and she leaves behind a cherished host of long-time friends and mall buddies. Her quick, witty sense of humor and selflessness endeared her to everyone she met. In addition to ensuring all her family and friends were well cared for, she enjoyed her cats, reading, shopping (and returning her purchases), and had a special place in her heart for Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Her dear cousins Pat and Win will be honoring her by returning a part of he to the harbor she so loved. Ruthann leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories and the world is a better place for her having been a part of it.

Ruthann greatly appreciated her nurses at Danbury Hospital on 11 E, where she spent much of her final months. She often spoke of their compassion, dedication, and loving support during her journey.

Ruthann was married to Russell P Springer in 1991. She is survived by former husband David J Lawton and his wife, Donna, children Susan Marie Lawton Gniadek (Todd) and David E Lawton. Stepchildren David Springer (Laura) and Michael Springer. Eight grandchildren; Jacob, Tommy, Kaira, Ian, Jenny, Kailyn, Rebekkah and Morgan. And one great granddaughter, Lily.

Burial will be held at a future date at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Westboro, MA. In lieu of flowers, Ruthann requested a donation be made to the March of Dimes for premature babies, the Alzheimer’s association CT chapter, or the leukemia and lymphoma society.
