Ruth H. Young, 92, of Southbury, CT passed away on Oct. 22 at the Glen Hill Center in Danbury after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer. Ruth was born in Danbury, CT on Jan. 11, 1929 to Elizabeth and Roland Hanson. She was the widow of Richard S. Young of Brookfield, CT where they made their home and raised seven children. Ruth worked for many years at Caldor in Brookfield, then went to work at Stop and Shop Supermarkets, where she worked at both Danbury locations. She is survived by two daughters, Joan Massey of Marion, NC and Nancy Spallone of Naugatuck, CT. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Robert, Sarah and Joshua Massey and Kaitlin and Michael Spallone, and three great grandchildren, Ariel and Caspian Massey and Kinsley Von Hegel. She was predeceased by her daughters Ruth Arbitelle and Jane Young, her sons, Richard E., Frank and Thomas Young, and one grandchild, Courtney Young. Ruth loved to crochet and for many years was a member of the CT Crochet Guild where she made many friends and participated in many activities with the club. She was also an active member of her local chapter of the AARP, and a member of the United Church of Christ in Southbury. She will also leave behind the close friends she made living at Heritage Village in Southbury. There will be a memorial service for Ruth on Wednesday, Nov. 3rd at 11:30 am at the United Church of Christ where her ashes will be placed in the memorial wall to rest with her husband and children. Friends may also pay their condolences at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N. Southbury on Nov. 3rd from 10:00-11:00 am.
