Robert “Bob” Tendler, age 86, died at Regional Hospice Danbury on July 19 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Bob was born in Brooklyn, NY to Leona & Alvin Tendler on May 8, 1934. He attended PS 128, graduated from Madison High School in 1951 and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy in 1955. Following graduation Bob served in the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1956-1958. Bob and his brother Bill opened Transit Pharmacy in NYC and when that closed Bob became a medical center representative for the Upjohn Company and then Hoffman La-Roche. Following his first retirement in 1988, Bob opened Immediate Medical Care (Danbury’s first walk-in medical office) and then OptionCare, a home IV therapy pharmacy. In 1997 Bob moved to Heritage Village and began working as a consultant pharmacist. Bob’s volunteer endeavors were extensive. He served as Chairman of the CT chapter of the American Red Cross, President of CT Pharmacist Association, Chair of the Southbury Democratic Town Committee, President of Jewish Federation of Western CT, and Pharmacy Consultant for Regional Hospice. Bob had a long involvement with breeding and exhibiting pure bred dogs. He was a professional dog handler and became an AKC licensed judge. He was also a CT Justice of the Peace as well as a volunteer speech coach for youngsters at B’nai Israel Southbury. Bob is survived by his wife, Dawn, his brother William (Bill), his children Lori Overland (Keith), Clifford Tendler (Pam), Jeremy Tendler (Krista), six grandsons: Scott Overland (Katie), Jamie Overland (Carly), Randy Overland (Stacey), Ethan Tendler, Jacob & Elijah Tendler, and four great grandchildren.
Private funeral was held at Farband Cemetery.
