Robert Sapack Obituary

Robert A. Sapack, 84, of Charleston, RI and Myrtle Beach, SC passed from this life on Friday, July 2, 2021, at Yale New Haven Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Judith (Andrews) Sapack.

Bob was born March 24, 1937 in Swoyersville, PA, son of Andrew and Margaret Sapack.  Bob attended Stratford High School, where he met the love of his life, Judy.  He received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Penn State in 1960, and Bob and Judy were married the same year.  Bob worked for several area architecture firms, and was a partner in Stein, Sapack and Ames for almost 20 years.  He designed numerous prominent buildings in Connecticut including several in Downtown Waterbury.  He was also a member of the American Institute of Architects, Alpha Rho Chi fraternity, and was a past president of the Kiwanis Club of Cheshire.

Bob served his country in the Connecticut National Guard and United States Army Reserve.

His interests and hobbies included golf, sailing and windsurfing.  As skipper of “Circus” Bob captained his family to victory in numerous Eastern Connecticut Yacht Racing Association events.  He was a former member of Duck Island Yacht Club and Lake Quassapaug Yacht Club.  In retirement, Bob loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren, and he and Judy stayed warm by shuttling between homes in Rhode Island and South Carolina.

In addition to his wife, Judy, Bob leaves behind son and daughter in law Michael and Lin Sapack, daughter and son in law Susan and Michael Goggin, daughter in law Debra Sapack, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  He was pre-deceased by his son, Kenneth Sapack.

A private burial will take place on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
