Peter Kevin Gersky, a lifelong resident of Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on April 21, 2022, at the age of 61. Loving and devoted husband to Sarah Cashman Gersky, dedicated father to Lindsay, Jessica and Will, and loving younger brother to Michael and Joe.
Peter was born on September 20, 1960 to Judith Head and Allen Gersky, Sr. in Torrington, CT. He attended Gilbert High School and completed a post-graduate year at Berkshire School where he played football. Peter graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Denison University in Ohio and was treasurer of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
After college, he began his 35-year career in finance in New York City. Colleagues recall the energy and perseverance Peter brought to every endeavor, from small businesses to large corporations, including his role as Global Sourcing Leader at Nielsen Company, Theis Precision Steel and most recently at the Siemon Company as Global Purchasing Manager. He was a mentor, partner and cherished friend to all who worked with him.
Peter’s greatest pride and joy were his family. Married to his beloved wife and true partner, Sarah Cashman Gersky for 33 years, they began their life together in Wilmington, Delaware. Early days of bartending together soon led to marriage and a move to Buffalo, NY where Peter and Sarah worked for Marine Midland Bank. They soon moved to Woodbury, CT where they have lived for 32 years.
Peter cherished his children and was omnipresent in every aspect of his children’s lives. No school event, performance or athletic event was missed and every opportunity to embrace family was celebrated. Introduced nearly 35 years ago to Nantucket by the “Mostly C” family, Peter came to love his time on the island, with family and friends on the beach, golfing at Sankaty Head Golf Club, enjoying a cold beer and forever a smile on his face.
Peter was an adventurous skier who enjoyed the slopes of Vermont, the West and Europe. He was a master of the grill and baking apple pies. Peter’s love of competition led to rousing games of cribbage, passionate golf matches and unwavering loyalty to the Red Sox and Patriots. Whether on the golf course, hunting, fishing, enjoying a few drinks and laughs with his dear family and friends, Peter remained true to himself. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Peter is survived by his wife Sarah, his children, Lindsay, Jessica and Will, his brothers Michael (Michele) Gersky of New Hartford, CT and Joe (Nancy) Gersky of Torrington, CT, his father-in-law, W.T. Cashman II of Wilmington, DE, brothers-in-law, Tim (Fran) Cashman of Baltimore, MD and John (Marcy) Cashman of Waterford, CT and his sister-in-law, Alison (Vin) Contento of Camden, ME, and 9 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Allen J. Gersky, Sr. and mother, Judith Head and his mother-in-law, Diana Plumb Cashman.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 28th, 2022 10am, at St. Anthony of Padua in Litchfield, CT, followed by a celebration of his life at Highfield Club, Middlebury, CT.
