Peggy Ann (Sobol) Kuss

Peggy Ann Sobol Kuss died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 30, 2021.

Born August 1, 1939 in Derby, CT to Henry Sobol and Ann Copes Sobol. Peggy graduated from Ansonia high school in 1956. During her senior year in high school she joined the Civil Air Patrol and quickly decided to take flying lessons, after her first solo flight she declared a career in aviation was not for her.

She attended the Paier School of Art and was an accomplished artist working with watercolors and decoupage.

Peggy was a member of the Christ Church in Quaker Farms where she served on the alter committee.

She married Richard Kuss in 1976 and together they owned and operated Yellow Coach School Bus Co. After many years in the school bus business she and her husband focused on farming providing hay to customers in CT and NY. Peggy loved the farm in Woodbury where her garden was legendary for its huge tomatoes. Her roadside stand was always filled with vegetables and interesting items. Her produce was enjoyed by many patrons of local restaurants and stores. Peggy’s Christmas letter was always eagerly awaited by friends and family to read the news of what crops were successful or a failure, usually a full report on weather  conditions and a list of invasive insects that dared to eat her produce. Peggy was well ahead of the kale trend in the eighties. She was growing and selling kale and informing all who would listen it was the vegetable of the future.

Peggy’s lifelong dream of land preservation was realized when she and her husband recently preserved many acres in Woodbury and Bethlehem with CT Farmland Trust program.

Through all of  Parkinson’s challenges Peggy never changed who she was, devoted wife, artist, farmer, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband Richard, her daughter Maryanne Leggo of Woodbury, her daughter Susan Hardisty of Bethlehem, three grandsons, Troy Hardisty, Clifton Leggo, and Mitchell Leggo. She is also survived by a sister Sheila Cook and her husband Douglas of Castleton, Vermont.

She was predeceased by her sisters Sandra and Catherine, and the father of her daughters Frank Leggo.

Memorial visitation will be Friday, September 10th from 5-7 P.M. at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home located 2 School St. Woodbury.

A memorial service is planned for October 30, 2021 at 10am at the Christ Church Quaker Farms in Oxford.
