It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Michael P. McCormack, Jr, 90, of Woodbury. Michael died peacefully, Saturday, Nov 20th, 2021 at Waterbury Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was reunited in heaven with his cherished wife of 51 years, Evelyn (Pacelli) McCormack.
Michael was born on June 9th, 1931 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Michael P and Margaret (Byrne) McCormack.
Michael was an ordained Catholic Priest for 10 years. He was well-versed in many languages, teaching Latin and English at Pawling High School in NY. Michael loved being a teacher and mentor to students and teachers to whom he created life-long bonds. He and Evelyn chaperoned many trips to Italy with his Latin students. Traveling was a favorite past time of Michaels, especially the trips he took to his parents homeland of Ireland, where he connected with and met relatives. He was an avid fan of the Lady Huskies and enjoyed playing and watching golf.
After retiring in 1995, he and Evelyn moved back to CT. Being close to family was the most important thing to him. He was known to say “good to be together” at our many gatherings. Michael will be greatly missed by his brother, John J McCormack and his wife Lorraine. Also left to affectionately remember him are his many nieces and nephews, notably Eileen Nettles, Maureen Brinchman and their families. Michael was blessed to have Grace Osei-Bonsu in his life. She began as his caregiver and became his devoted friend.
Beside his parents and wife, Michael was also predeceased by his brother, James McCormack.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Waterbury Hospital and Seasons Hospice. The staff were extremely caring and made Michael as comfortable as possible during his final days.
Until his health made it impossible, Michael volunteered his time with many charities. Please honor Michael’s memory (in lieu of flowers) by contributing to the Prince of Peace (St Teresa of Avila) Men’s Club. Michael was a member for many years and was instrumental in raising money for scholarships through the annual golf tournament. One of his proudest moments was when he and Evelyn jointly received the Christian Neighbor Award.
Please join us to celebrate Michael’s legacy on Saturday, November 27, 2021 from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School St., Woodbury. Burial immediately following at New North Cemetery, Woodbury
