Wolcott- Margaret A. (Axelby) Knowlton, age 89, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2021, at Waterbury Hospital. Peggy, as she was more commonly known, was the beloved wife of L. Gordon Knowlton III for the past 62 years.
Peggy was born on October 23, 1932 in Thomaston, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Stanley and Alice (Gray) Axelby. Peg attended local schools and was a proud graduate of the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for over sixty years, first at Waterbury Hospital in the nursery, and then for the Oakville Family Physicians, the late Dr. Joseph Czarsty and his son, Dr. Craig Czarsty. Peg truly loved her profession, and looked forward to helping people every day.
Peg enjoyed a very full life. She and Gordon created wonderful and memorable family experiences for their children and grandchildren. Skiing, sailing, camping, and trips to Disney World and the beach were among the highlights. Closer to home, Peg enjoyed playing bridge with her lifelong friends Pauline, Joanne, Sandy, and Marilyn. She could also be found tending her lovely flower gardens and watching the beautiful birds at her
birdfeeder, especially the yellow finches.
Besides her dedicated and loving husband, Gordon, Peg is survived by her son, Scott G. Knowlton and his wife Julie (Arvedon) Knowlton of Natick, MA; daughter, Tara K. Prescott and her husband Reverend Doctor Maner Tyson of Wolcott, Connecticut. Most importantly, Peg’s memory will be honored and cherished by her four grandchildren - Aedan Knowlton, Megan Prescott, Neve Knowlton and Melissa Prescott; and her granddogs.
Per her request, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the First Congregational Church, Waterbury, CT. Burial will be private. To leave an online condolence and for updates on service information, please visit www.munsonloveterefuneralhome.com.
