Lorraine Traver Obituary

On a brilliant fall morning Lorraine Traver, found eternal calm at her Woodbury home with her husband Bob and the cherished memories of a 72-year union. Born June 22, 1926 in Waterbury, CT, Lorraine was the youngest and last daughter of Charles and Helen (DeRienzo) Clemente.  In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Bob and his wife Sandy Ruzicka of Bethlehem, Steven Traver of Oakville, her daughter Judy Traver and her partner Philip Krauthoff of Bethlehem, and her grandson, Matthew Traver of Sunrise, FL

Lorraine was loved and nurtured by a large extended family and forever spoiled by 4 older sisters. The household was filled with love, food, and music. As a teenager during WWll, attending Wilby High School, her sense of community came to the fore and her high school years were filled with community activity. She married Bob in 1949 and upon her arrival to Woodbury in 1955 she became active with St. Teresa’s Church and the varied organizations that were a part of small-town life including Cub Scouts Pack 54, Brownies and PTA. Her first foray into politics came in 1963 when she was elected to the office of Republican Registrar of Voters, a position, she held for the next 13 years. She also served as the administrative secretary for two different selectman’s administrations. In all, Lorraine devoted more than 30 years of service to the town of Woodbury. She was elected Town Tax Collector in 1976 and served for 18 years. Her affinity for dealing with the public and her affable and helpful nature allowed her to win reelection every four years, often with no opposition. After retirement in 1994 Lorraine and Bob travelled extensively throughout the United States and Canada but they shared a true love for Hawaii where they spent many wonderful vacations.  Lorraine always returned to Woodbury filled with fond memories from the trip and contentment at returning to her beloved town.
