Linda Joyce Kessler

Linda Joyce Kessler, age 74, passed away peacefully in the early hours of the morning on Saturday November 20th. She leaves behind her devoted husband Alan, her children Elizabeth and James Kessler, daughter-in-law Diana Kessler, and grandson Eli.

 Linda grew up in Brooklyn, NY, attending school with her two closest friends Vida and Susan. When introduced to Susan’s older brother Alan, Linda knew right away that she would marry him, and that’s exactly what she did, just this past week, 57 years ago on November 13th.

 Although she and her schoolmates moved farther away from one another, they remained close friends their whole lives. Linda graduated from Hunter College, where she studied art under renowned abstract expressionist Ad Reinhardt. She was skilled at painting, printmaking and drawing, and her home was always filled with her work. She was even more passionate about music, having studied the violin in her youth and later taken up classical guitar. She taught private guitar lessons and even started a guitar program at the Weston schools, where she worked for many years in the special education department as an aide. Linda also played in many ensembles, including the Lyra Classic Trio which she founded with her husband Alan and flutist Paula Coutz. Linda instilled a love of music in her two children, but especially in her son James, who carries on her legacy today as a music teacher.

Her family is forever grateful to Sandra Sankey and the dedicated team of aides at Opal Stork and the Watermark, who were a source of strength and support in Linda’s long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday November 24, 2021 at 1 pm.
