Linda Elizabeth Coad entered into the nearer presence of God peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday March 23, 2022, five days shy of her eighty-first birthday. Born March 28, 1941, daughter of Warren and Charlotte Campbell and birth mother Ruth Sheelle, Linda was a life-long resident of the Woodbury/Southbury area.
A loving, wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother, Linda also cared for others in the wider community. At age 16, she began her working life at the Southbury Training School. Linda served 20 years as a dispatcher for the Newtown Police, and spent over 10 years as a home health aide. A member of the St. Andrew’s Society, Linda organized the Scottish Highland Games on the Goshen Fairgrounds for several years. She was also an active member of the Woodbury Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, the Southbury Eagles Drum Corp, and the Woodbury Ambulance Association. A member of the North Congregational Church of Woodbury since 1959, Linda sang in the choir for over 20 years, was active in the Women’s Fellowship, assisted with the Sunday School, and participated in the annual church fair. Predeceased by her husband George Edmund “Buzzy” Coad, her sister Mary Bennett, and her son-in-law Walter Castings, Linda is survived by her children, Warren H. Coad and his wife Sally, Virginia C. Morris, Mike E. Coad, and Katie C. Castings. Linda is also survived by her sister Nancy Tangway, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A “Celebration of Life” Service for Linda will be held at the North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North, in Woodbury, CT, on Saturday April 2, 2022 at 10:30 am with the burial at the New North Cemetery in Woodbury. Following the service, all are welcome to join the family for a luncheon reception at the Woodbury Firehouse.
Memorial donations in Linda’s honor may be made to the Woodbury Ambulance Association, and the American Cancer Society.
