SOUTHBURY -
Joseph Edward Lenahan, age 100, beloved husband of Ruth Sykes Lenahan, passed away peacefully in his home on November 23, 2021. He was born in Oxford, on January 6, 1921, son of the late Frank and Mary (Karlak) Lenahan.
Joseph was an operating engineer, who worked for most of his life running heavy equipment, before retiring in his eighties. He and Ruth volunteered at the Southbury Training School Thrift Shop for over 25 years, until he was 98 years old. He loved the Thrift Shop days, when they would get to visit with special friends at Dunkin Donuts, after their work at the thrift shop. He travelled the United States with Ruth, and enjoyed spending winter months in Daytona Beach, where he combed the beaches with his metal detector. He enjoyed boating on the lake, and taught much of his family how to water ski behind his boat. He loved going to Old Forge, N.Y. where they went snowmobiling and made many friends and memories. He was a man who loved life and always kept busy with a project.
In addition to his loving wife, Ruth, whom he was married to for over 80 years, Joseph leaves behind his two sons, Joseph Lenahan Jr (Sandra) of Oxford, and John Lenahan (Sharon) of Southbury. He also leaves to cherish, six Grandchildren, Kimberly Schmitz of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kurt Lenahan of Roxbury, Lisa Randall of Moultonborough, N.H., Tracey Lenahan of Oxford, Kelly Lewis of Woodbury, and Joseph Lenahan III of Oxford. He leaves eight great-grandchildren, Justin, Joshua, Shellie, Owen, Brock, Evelyn, Liam and Macklin, three great-great-grandchildren, Samuel, Leah, and Joyanna, and his niece, Sharon Madsen of West Hartford.
A private Memorial Service to celebrate his life, was held by his family, at Munson Lovetere Funeral Home.
