John Margaitis Obituary

Woodbury- John (Jack) R. Margaitis of Woodbury entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2019 at Abbott Terrace Health Care Facility in Waterbury, CT after a long, courageous battle with Amyloidosis.

John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Marion (Burch), daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Mark Harrison of Woodbury. His most cherished moments were reading to his 4-year-old grandson, Ben, ending with a special grandpa handshake and holding and laughing with one-year old Nolan.

He spent his life helping and supporting others both in his professional and personal life. He was a longtime teacher and coach for Regional District 14 school district. After his retirement, he worked for the Four Corners grocery store in Middlebury, the VNA as an at home caregiver and then he was trained in the Special Care Unit of the Lutheran Home, both in Southbury.

He loved to read, fish, cheer on the UCONN womens basketball team, and above all he was a passionate gardener. He loved to study new varieties of vegetables and helpful tips while sharing his produce with family and friends, vowing to cut back each year, but always planting twice as much. John will be remembered for his lifelong dedication to family and friends. His warm and optimistic demeanor brought joy to the many lives he touched.

The family would like to thank Dr. Raissi and Dr. Braverman for their guidance and caring through the progression of his illness. Special thanks to the entire wonderful staff at Abbott Terrace Health Care Facility, Davita dialysis center, the hospice support team, Harold Leever Center, and Aging Better at Home for the caring, compassion and joy they brought into his life. Special thanks to the family members and friends that supported him during this difficult time.
