John Robert Anderson, Sr.
John R. Anderson, Sr., 85, of Southbury, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12th, surrounded by family and friends. He was the beloved husband of Carol (Skowronski) Anderson, with whom he would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this coming May. He was born on July 15, 1934 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Oscar and Joanne (Lengyel) Anderson. He was raised in Naugatuck and graduated from the University of Connecticut in Storrs in 1956. John served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army after college and was a proud patriot. He started his illustrious career at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT, moving on to work as an executive at Blue Cross Blue Shield of CT retiring after a successful 30-year career. He lived in Oxford, CT for over 42 years before moving to Southbury. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, love of his grandchildren, and infectious smile.
John enjoyed the very simple things in life – a walk on the beach in Duxbury, MA, growing a beautiful flower garden, painting, feeding the backyard birds and reading a good book. When asked what he would like his obituary to say, he simply stated “that he loved his family, because nothing on this earth meant more to him than them.”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, John R. Anderson, Jr., daughter-in-law Lisa, and daughter Kristin M. (Anderson) Salisbury, son-in-law Scott, his four grandchildren, Caroline, John III, Lily and Kate, who he was very devoted to; his sister Gretchen and brother in-law Nick DelRosso of Cheshire, and numerous very special nieces and nephews, all of whom loved their “Uncle John.” He was also predeceased by his beloved sister Karin Pellett, brothers-in-law Walter E. and William J. Skowronski, and many special friends.
Visitation will take place on February 21, 2020 at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury, CT from 3:30PM to 6:30PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT. A military honor salute will follow the mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Valley Community Foundation, 253-A Elizabeth Street, Derby, CT 06418.
