Joan F. (Froelich) York

Joan F. York, 85, formerly of Watertown, CT, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2021 in Aiken, SC. She was the wife for over 61 years to George York. She moved to South Carolina in August of 2020 to be with her family. Joan was born March 5, 1936 in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Carl and Marion Froelich. She was the co-owner, with her husband, of  Pomperaug Auto Service in Woodbury for almost 30 years. 

She was truly one of the sweetest, most faithful woman and she touched the hearts of everyone she met. She graduated from Crosby High school in 1954. Joan enjoyed singing, playing the piano for her church, doing counted cross stitch and spending time with her family. She worked for the Watertown School system as an aide for  hearing impared children. She was also the bookkeeper for their business, but her favorite job was watching her grandchildren when they were young. She delighted in watching UCONN basketball and her beloved Red Sox. Joan and George loved to travel and especially loved spending winters in Scottsdale and Myrtle Beach.

Joan was predeceased by her husband, George. She is survived by her son, George (Judy) York of Aiken, SC; her daughter Linda York of Arizona; her sister Carol (Gerry) Castonguay of  Massachusetts and her sister Lois (David) Schwartz of Pennsylvania; her grandson, Jeffrey (Priyanka) York of Atlanta; her granddaughter, Samantha York of Boston; her great Granddaughter, Indira; and several nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 3:00pm at The Gateway Bible Church. 500 Buckingham St., Oakville, CT.
