SOUTHBURY- Janet Claire (O’Brien) Behrendt, 79, of Southbury, formerly of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022, at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late James Peirce Behrendt. Janet was born, November 16, 1942, the daughter of the late Philip J. and Gertrude M. (Donovan) O’Brien and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey.

She graduated from Jersey City State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught elementary school for 22 years in New Jersey. In 1989 her husband was transferred to Southbury by IBM. She continued her education, earning a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport. Janet worked at the Southbury Public Library for many years.

Janet married Peirce in Jersey City on July 12, 1969. During their 39 years together, they enjoyed traveling, the Special Olympics, and several theater groups. She was a deacon at the United Church of Christ in Southbury. She enjoyed playing Bunco and Mexican dominos.

She leaves her sister, Maureen G. (O’Brien) O’Day of Caldwell, New Jersey, and many special friends who enriched her life.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 1:30 pm at the United Church of Christ, 283 Main St. North, Southbury. Burial will be at a later date. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home.
