James Mitchell Obituary

James V. Mitchell, 92, of Washington, died peacefully on October 1, 2022 at the Springs at Watermark on East Hill in Southbury. He was predeceased by his wife Constance (Heina) Mitchell in 2010.

Jim was born November 4, 1929 in Illinois, son of the late James and Marie (McCaffrey) Mitchell. He grew up in the Chicago area and moved to northern New Jersey as a young man. He married his beloved Connie in 1951 and they started their family in Washington Township, NJ. He moved his family to Washington in 1975, where he operated his own custom drapery business, and retired in 2000.

He was a dedicated communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help parish in Washington, and a member of the Washington Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. In his retirement he served as a director of the Washington Cemetery Association and volunteered at both the Gunn Memorial Library and New Milford Hospital.

Jim is survived by his four children, James (Maureen) of Wyckoff, NJ; Terence (Sherry) of Oldsmar, FL; Brian (Marcia) of Washington and Maureen Kent (Dana) of Cheshire; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews around the country including Patty Parker (Scott) of Roxbury.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday October 8, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Green Hill Road, Washington, immediately followed by the interment at Washington Green Cemetery on Parsonage Lane. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Woodbury Munson Lovetere Funeral Home.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Springs at Watermark on East Hill for their compassionate care of Jim throughout his stay.

Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church or Regional Hospice of Danbury CT in lieu of flowers.
