Henry J Ward Jr.

Oxford- Henry J. Ward Jr., 96, of Oxford, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday April 13, 2022. He was the loving husband of 66 years to Loretta (Lyons) Ward. 

Henry was born February 2, 1926 in New York, NY to the late Lillian (Stokes) and Henry Ward Sr. He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served in World War II as a Seabee from 1944- 1946. He then went on to work at General Reinsurance for 46 years.

Henry served 2 terms as a Grand Knight with The Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Council in Fairfield, also a Fourth-Degree member.  He volunteered for AARP as a greeter. He enjoyed going to the Oxford Senior Center, he called and played bingo, and was an avid Detroit and Notre Dame sports fan.

Henry was a gentleman in every way. He will be remembered for his love of his family, his sense of humor, his strong belief in God and his country.

Besides his wife, Loretta, Henry is survived by 7 children and their spouses, Stephen and Joanne Ward, Brian and Venise Ward, Patricia and Gary Metzger, Eileen and Vic Cicchese, Ann Reno, John and Judith Ward, and Henry Ward; 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and his sisters-in-law, Malachy and Rosemarie Ward, and Kathy Ward.

Henry is predeceased by Ann and Edward Olsson, Gerard and Doris Ward, Mary and Thomas McNeill, Thomas Ward, and Mika Tranotta.

A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday April 23, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas The Apostle, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT 06478. Military honors are to follow. Burial will be held at a later date. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.munsonloveterefuneral.com.
