Harmon Lester Andrews, age 90, went home to the Lord on June 26, 2021, at his home in Southbury, CT, after a brief illness.  Harmon was born on January 1, 1931, in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Andrews (Hildegard Henschke).  As a young boy he lived in Michigan and Georgia before settling in Tenafly, NJ.  He graduated from Tenafly High School in 1949, received a BS degree from Susquehanna University in 1953, and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1961.

Harmon retired as a Captain after serving 30 years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and with the New Jersey National Guard and the Army Reserves in Connecticut.  Harmon worked for Uniroyal, Inc., for 25 years as an administrator in the industrial products division.  He worked in the Passaic, NJ and Philadelphia, PA manufacturing plants before being transferred to the company’s headquarters in New York, NY and in Oxford, CT.  He also worked as business administrator for the Orange, CT school system for 14 years.

Harmon was on the Southbury Board of Selectmen from 1978 to 1987 and served as First Selectman from June 1983 until November 1985.   He recently resigned from the Southbury Planning Commission as his health started to fail.

Harmon was an active member of the United Church of Christ Southbury, King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge #7 in Woodbury, CT, Tribury Rotary Club, VFW Post 1607, and American Legion Posts 147 & 204.  He also served as a director of the former Woodbury Telephone Company and as a member of the Board of Trustees for Masonicare in Wallingford, CT.  He was currently a corporator of the Newtown Savings Bank.

Survivors include Doris (Kitzman) Andrews, his wife of 63 years; three children, Amy of Southbury, CT, Scott and his wife Marla (Haney) of Winston Salem, NC, and Sara Andrews Santini and her husband Peter of Germantown, MD.  There are four grandchildren, Emily Santini of Fairfax, VA, Ashley Santini of Germantown, MD, Harrison and Murphy Andrews of Winston Salem, NC.  Harmon is also survived by his sister, Marlene Andrews-Louttit of Somerset, PA, brother John Andrews and his wife Jane of Burlington, VT, and a sister-in-law Flora Kitzman of Cedar Rapids, IA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A private interment with military honors will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery.  A memorial service will be held on July 23, 2021, at 1PM at the United Church of Christ Southbury.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Christ Southbury Memorial Fund (283 Main Street N, Southbury, CT 06488) or The Masonic Charity Foundation of Connecticut (P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492).
