Francis Gerald Driscoll, 92, of North Andover, MA, and most recently of Southbury, CT, passed away on Tuesday April 13, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Frank (Gene) was born September 24, 1928 in Stoneham, MA the son of Francis Jeremiah Driscoll and Catherine Harris Driscoll. He was educated in Malden MA schools and was a 1951 graduate of The University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Frank was a stellar football player at Malden High and UMass.
It was during his freshman year at UMass that he met the love of his life, Rena Laura Murphy. Upon graduating they were married on August 11, 1951 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams, MA.
The couple settled in the Berkshires and raised their five daughters there. Frank was a dedicated educator/coach for the Central Berkshire Regional School District. He began his career there as a teacher and head football coach for Dalton High School. He then became the principal of Dalton Jr. High School/Nessacus Middle School prior to returning to teaching special education. It was in teaching these classes that his kind and loving spirit was most evident. He ended his teaching career at the Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH.
After 68 years of marriage, Rena passed in 2019. He leaves three of his five daughters, Laura Driscoll of Washington, CT, Theresa (Christopher) Miller of Santa Fe, NM, Kathleen (Paul) Wood of Plymouth, MA, and his son in law James Dunn of Atlanta GA. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his daughters Ann Elizabeth Driscoll and Jeanne Driscoll Dunn and his brothers William, Robert and Leonard Driscoll. He leaves behind his beloved sister, Edna Leathers of Methuen MA, and his dear sister in law Ann Banville of Sagamore Beach, MA. He was blessed with nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his primary caretaker/buddy at the Lutheran Home, Heidi Ham, who made Covid restrictions bearable. She was our lifeline to our sweet father during this most difficult year.
Frank Driscoll was a kind and gentle soul. He left a lasting impression on all who had the good luck to know him as a coworker, supervisor, friend and neighbor. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the Special Olympics of Massachusetts, 512 Forest Street, Marlborough, MA 01752.
