Faye Karson

Faye Karson, aged 90, of Southbury, CT, passed away of natural causes on March 18, 2022 at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut.

Faye was born on January 20, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, to Samuel and Molly (Bodner) Messing (both deceased), and had one sister named Shirley (Fanger, deceased).

Faye grew up in Pontiac, Michigan, where she met and married Ivan Karson (deceased) in April of 1950, and they had four children.

Faye was a wonderful, inventive woman and entrepreneur who was truly ahead of her time, as well as a loving and supportive mother.  In the 1960's, she started a company called Booktape Productions, which were professionally read books recorded onto audio cassettes.  Her company also produced the Travel America series of cassettes.

In the early 1970's, she moved with two of her children from Bethpage, NY to Riverside, CT.  She worked at Wang Computers and for the State of Connecticut during Governor John Rowland's administration. She became a real estate agent, and for a time was a member of the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting. She attempted to form a sports betting company in partnership with a well-known British sports book. She also invested in several real estate properties she owned in Tucson, Arizona.

Her passions included sailing, traveling, gardening, knitting and crocheting, and she designed and created various women’s apparel for herself and her daughters. She enjoyed dining out, and especially had a fondness for seafood and sushi.

During her golden years, her mind and creativity never waned and she authored children's books and designed home improvements and gardens at her daughter's house.  In spring and summer, the various blossoms she so loved seeing always brought a smile to her face.

She is survived by her four children: daughter Lynne (Kyle), son Mitchell (Cathy), son Scott (Betty), daughter Randi, and two granddaughters, Rhonda and Marlise Karson, as well as extended family whom she positively impacted and who love and miss her.

Her wishes were to be cremated and her ashes scattered off the coast of Maui.
