Eugene Martin Obituary

Eugene F. Martin, 83, of Oxford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at River Glen Health Care Center in Southbury on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Gene was the loving husband of Nancy L. Martin (Mills), son of the late George and Jessie (Hoepner) Martin. He was born on November 11, 1937 in New Haven. 

Gene was educated in the Monroe School system, attended Bassick High School and Sacred Heart University.  An ambitious entrepreneur, he established Martin's Aluminum Products with his loyal wife, Nancy, in 1961; and was repeatedly named Contractor of the Year by the Remodeling Contractors' Association. 

 He volunteered in many different capacities for a wide variety of organizations including serving as a council president of the Remodeling Contractors' Association, a member of the Governor's Energy Task Force, state president of the Remodeling Contractors' Association, a member of the Panel for Metric Conversion, a member of the Board of the International Remodeling Contractors' Association, a Corporator of the Woodbury Savings Bank, a Corporator of the Banking Center, a member of the Advisory Board of the Banking Center, a member of the State of Connecticut Codes and Standards Committee, a member of the Advisory Board of Great Country Bank, a member of the Better Business Bureau, Vice President of the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Board of Directors of Griffin Hospital, chairman of the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department, a member of the Southbury Business Association, and a member of the Oxford Economic Development Committee.  He served for eight years in the United States Naval Reserves as a Recruiter at Yale University. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner. Gene was a member of Christ Church Quaker Farms, where he served as an usher and member of the Vestry.  He was also a member of Racebrook Country Club in Woodbridge. 

Gene was an avid New York Yankees fan, holding box seats at Yankee Stadium for decades. He especially enjoyed sunsets by the lake in both Maine and Florida. 

 Gene and Nancy were married on November 2, 1956, and remained devoted to each other for more than 64 years.

 He is also survived by his three daughters, Deborah Logue (Martin) and her husband, David Logue, of Woodbury; Katherine Osborn (Martin) and her husband, Ormonde Osborn, of Oxford; and Elizabeth Agren (Martin) and her husband, Stephen Agren, of Sarasota, Florida. 

 He is also survived by his nine adoring granchildren, Sarah (Logue) Johnson and her husband Benjamin; Michael Logue and his wife Nicole; James Logue and his wife, Samantha; Rachel (Logue) Terry and her husband Michael; Timothy Osborn, Daniel Osborn, Matthew Agren, Oliver Agren and Isaac Agren.

Gene was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Natalie, Ryan, Charlotte, David, Alexander, and Riley; as well as four step-great grandchildren: Benjamin, Carter, Levi and Mallory.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, March 6 from 10:30 - 12:30 at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St N., in Southbury. A private service will follow at Christ Church Quaker Farms in Oxford.
