Elaine Danen Obituary

Mrs. Elaine (Richmond) Danen, 98, formerly of Southbury, CT., passed away peacefully at The Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation in West Hartford, CT., on February 7, 2019. She was the beloved wife of the late Franklyn I. Danen.

Elaine was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 1, 1920 and grew up in the Bronx with her parents Louis and Lillian (Gitlin) Richmond and her younger brother, Larry. She graduated from Evander Childs High School, where she excelled in the dramatic arts, and went on to earn a degree from The Guggenheim School for Dental Hygiene in NYC. She worked in public health, as a dental hygienist for the city of New York, until her marriage to Army Air Corp Captain Franklyn I. Danen on June 13, 1943. The couple lived near army bases in Louisiana and Oklahoma until the end of World War II, when they settled in Waterbury, CT.

While lovingly raising her three children, Mrs. Danen organized a dental clinic for children attending the Waterbury Cerebral Palsy Association’s Pre-School Education and Therapy Program. After obtaining her credentials in special education, she taught classes in the day nursery program for several years.

She and her husband moved to Heritage Village in Southbury, CT., in 1972 and wintered in Boca Raton, Florida for several years. Elaine continued to be an avid reader throughout her life and enjoyed gardening, painting, sculpting and writing. Her warmth, compassion, wisdom and creativity touched all who knew her.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by the family she leaves behind which includes her brother Larry Richmond and his wife Janet of Palm Beach Gardens, FL., her son and daughter-in-law Richard and Deborah Danen of Oxford, CT., her daughter and son-in-law Janie and Ernst Nagler of Higganum, CT., her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Paul Rabin of Marblehead, MA., her four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
