ROXBURY – Edward E. Tierney, 97, passed peacefully away on November 20, 2020. He was born on December 14, 1922 in Elizabeth, NJ. and was raised in the Bellerose section of Queens, NY. Edward enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 8, 1944 at the beginning of WWII. He served in the 314th Air Transport Squadron, 31st Air Transport Group as a pilot flying C-47’s with supplies to the troops in the invasion of Europe.
He married the love of his life, Winna Jean Foley (an Army flight nurse) upon his returning home on June 26, 1946. In 1955 they bought a home in Roxbury, CT., where he started working in carpentry, eventually establishing his own construction company. In 1960 Edward obtained his real estate license and began a successful career spanning over 50 years with offices in Roxbury and Washington. He was always known for his honesty, integrity and truthfulness in business. As a husband & father he was extremely easy going, patient, generous with his time and an excellent teacher on many subjects.
Later in life, Edward and his wife Jean traveled back to Normandy many times and enjoyed making new friends in France, learning to speak French and renewing his pilot license.
He is predeceased by a son Brian Edward Tierney and is survived by his wife of 74 years, Jean Tierney and 2 sons, Thomas J. Tierney & Timothy G. Tierney, 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
