Doris Jeanette Corbett, age 93, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 in New Milford surrounded by her family. Doris was born in Danbury, July 21st 1930, a daughter to the late Louella (Benedict) Covill and Louis J. Covill Jr. She was raised in Danbury where she attended various schools and was a graduate of Danbury High School with the class of 1949. While in high school she was very musically talented and learned to play the violin. Her musical talents provided her with opportunities to travel with other school members to Canada, Florida and Pennsylvania for concerts and other performances.
After high school she married her late husband Raymond Harold Corbett. Because Raymond was in the Army, they lived in Louisiana for a short time, returning to the Danbury area in 1952 after Raymond’s discharge. During this time Doris became a Registered Dental Associate and accepted a position at the former Fairfield Hills Hospital in Newtown, where she worked for 25 years.
While living in New Fairfield, Doris was a member of the Congregational Church of New Fairfield, where she was a member of the Church Choir with many of her close friends. She loved to perform, especially singing, and had the opportunity to expand her talents while performing in the productions of the 90 Minutes from Broadway shows at the Candlewood theater. She was also a very accomplished artist and her creative talents were highlighted, while working the many set designs. These performances and shows were especially meaningful to her because she was with many of her closest friends and family members.
After living in Brookfield for a short time, she eventually moved to Woodbury and lived for 15 years at Spruce Bank Farms. She was a very active member of the community as a member of Red Hats Book club and organized St. Patricks’ Day dinners at the club house for the benefit of the Woodbury Ambulance Association.
She was predeceased by her sisters Lois and Jane, and her brother Louis. She is lovingly remembered by her children Jim Corbett and Pam of Newport, NH., Dolly Istvan of Goshen and John and Pam Corbett of Chapel Hill, NC. In addition to her children, she is survived by 5 grand-children Jason and Kristen Corbett (both of New Hampshire), Alex Istvan (Kent), Mark Corbett (Middletown) and Brian Corbett (Chicago) and several great grand-children, nieces and nephews.
