Diana Sears, 72 of Oxford, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8th after a brief battle with cancer. In her final days, she was lovingly cared for by family and friends in the comfort of her home. Diana is predeceased by her parents, John and Emily Sears, her sister June Melius, her sister Linda Turney, and brother, Louie Chreiki. She is survived by her fiancé, E. Paul Herbert, brothers John Sears, Dan Sears, and sisters Kim Sears, Terry Philbin, and Laura Sears. She leaves behind her five children, Dena, Dean, Melissa, TJ Parisi, and Amanda DeMayo, as well as her five beautiful grandchildren, Julian, Jai, Jolan, Jana Bette, and Ava Parisi.
Diana enjoyed her life most by bringing joy to others. As a young girl, she helped raise her siblings on her parent’s farm. As a first-time wife and mother, she ran a household and welcomed friends and neighbors to stop in any time at all for a kickball tournament, a slice of her delicious cheesecake, or a game of pinball in the basement play area. In her thirties, she ran Highborn Horse Park in Southbury, and later, a catering business called “The Country Cook”. After retirement, she spent nearly every day caring for her grandchildren. Being a grandmother was what she was born to do. Her grandchildren were her world, and she was theirs. There was no one like “Grammie”.
Diana’s energy, wit, and style will continue on with us when we feast together on her favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, tend to our gardens, dance in our kitchens, care for our animals, vacation on Lake Sebago in Maine, and play a good game of cards surrounded by friends and sipping a nice glass of wine. She will always be right here.
Our family plans to have a private ceremony to commemorate her life. We would like to plant a tree in our moms memory, in lieu of flowers please consider making a donation at https://www.gofundme.com/f/diana-sears . Thank you all for the love and memories our mother has left behind. She will be remembered well, and when we see her face in those memories, we will smile.
