Constance L. ("Connie") Heckendorf

Constance “Connie” Heckendorf of Southbury, CT, passed away April 28, 2021, after battling a lengthy illness. She was born June 27, 1947 in Dayton, OH to A. Robert and Ruth Becannon Locke.

After graduating from Fairmont West High School in Kettering, OH, Connie attended Ohio University and later finished her degree at Wright State University earning a B.S. in Business. Connie spent the majority of her career in sales and marketing with executive positions at Rike’s Department Stores, Top Value, NCR and Chinon Cameras. She later formed a successful business with her husband, Glenn, specializing in photographic equipment and precision optics. She truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, visiting with family and friends, traveling to Nantucket, Vermont and Europe, organizing adult fellowship church events, along with working with her friends on many arts and crafts projects. She also volunteered with The Friends of the Southbury Library and recorded for Connecticut Talking Books for the blind and physically disabled.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Glenn Heckendorf of Southbury, CT; her son, Mark Gabbard (wife Christine) of San Rafael, CA; stepson, Steven Heckendorf (wife Pam) of Southbury, CT; and grandchildren, Evan and Nola Gabbard, Olivia and Amelia Heckendorf; sister, Barbara Colvin (husband Richard), Tipp City, OH; nephews, Scott Colvin, (wife Heather, daughter Payten Robinson), Tucson, AZ, and Robert Colvin, (wife Amy, sons Aaron and Joshua), Tipp City, OH.

Her sparkling personality, creativity and kindness will be forever missed by her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, A. Robert Locke, mother, Ruth Becannon Locke, stepmother, Shirley Locke, brother, Thomas Becannon Locke, stepson, Scott Heckendorf and her beloved Collie, Mandy.

Calling hours will be from 3:30 - 5:30 pm Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main St. N, Southbury, CT. A Memorial Service will be held afterward at 5:30 pm in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Connie’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or the charity of your choice.
