Catherine Walters Obituary

“There are some who bring a light so great to the world,

that even after they have gone,

the light remains.”  -Unknown

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Catherine Michelle Walters passed away at her home in Southbury on Sunday, February 21, surrounded by her family. She began her life on July 30 in Long Beach, California.  She was welcomed into the loving arms of her parents Betty and Ed and sister Cindi.

Cathie led a passionate life that revolved around family, friends and work.  She was a fiercely dedicated mother raising three equally strong and loving children Nicole, Amanda and Danny.  Cathie was their biggest cheerleader and steadfast supporter.  She taught them how to enjoy life by playing games, going on adventures, contributing to the community, and treating others with patience and kindness.

Cathie was an honest, humble, and loyal friend. The room was always much brighter when she walked in. Cathie brought out the goodness in everyone around her with her infectious personality and found humor in life even when things were tough. She gave love and laughter in equal doses to everyone  who surrounded her. She treated her friends like family, sharing her heart with so many.

In her work as an educator of young children Cathie touched and changed many lives.  She had a voice that could both calm and engage a room of energetic preschoolers.  She developed relationships with each and every student she worked with. Cathie loved the spirit and honest personalities of her students. Her superpower was the ability to understand and connect with children.

Throughout her life Cathie was always sharing her love of music with everyone.  She started by playing the guitar and singing at church. She then went on to sing in high school musicals.  After that Cathie spent the remainder of her life entertaining and sharing her songs with her children and others.

In her spare time, Cathie loved to hang out with her friends. Whether at The Lodge for nachos or over a friend’s house for wine, she enjoyed their company. Family outings were a regular occurrence: Deerfield to the Yankee Candle Factory, Shelburne Falls to pick pumpkins, day trips to the beach, and Cape Cod with the Crew. There was never a dull moment in the life of Ms. Walters.

In the words of friends and family, Cathie was

a gift to the world, a blessing to all, and the laughter in their lives.

Many said they will always remember the best times they had with her and that

her smile will be etched in their memories forever.
