Carolyn Elizabeth Duren, age 74, of Wolcott CT, passed away January 30, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer, with her family by her side.
Born July 21, 1949 in Waterbury CT, daughter of the late John and Mary (Moynihan) Brundage. She was a graduate of Wolcott High School, Class of 1967. She held various positions in the medical and property management field.
Carolyn was the beloved wife of Kenneth Duren for 55 years, and together almost 60 years.
Besides her husband Ken, she leaves to cherish her memory her three daughters, Kristen Duren, Kelly Vallancourt (Donald), Rebecca Wilcox (Scott), her 8 grandchildren which she cherished deeply. Kimberlee Burrell, Elizabeth Schulze (Matt), FCC Samantha Burrell (Zack Campbell), Alexis Vallancourt, Morgan Duren, Lindsey Vallancourt, Gracelyn and Joe Wilcox. Her great grandchildren, Andrew, Aryn and Austin Schulze, Asher and Brady Campbell. Carolyn also leaves behind her siblings, Thomas Brundage (Cheryl), Roberta Goss and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carolyn was a very long-time (28 years) member of BBT Quilters where she served in various positions and started the Ivoryton Quilt Retreat many years ago. In the last few years she was also a member of the Hearthside Quilters. At the Wolcott Senior Center, she belonged to a knitter’s group where she made many helmet liners for active service men and women. She was always making pillowcases for the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and was a huge contributor to the Quilts of Valor by nominating veterans for their service and making quilts for them. Carolyn will be missed by her very close family of whom she was very proud and by many friends in the quilting community.
Besides quilting, her other passions included car shows with her husband, any activities her children or grandchildren were involved in, quilting retreats, concerts, PTO, camping, road trips, theater and advocating for individuals with Autism. She especially enjoyed evening sunsets on the back porch with her glass of Baileys and her husband.
“In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else could ever fill."
Memorial donations in Carolyn’s name can be made to: Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Road, Ashford, CT 06278 (860) 429-3444.
