Southbury- Carlos M. Quimbaya, age 84 and most recently of Southbury, died peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2023 in the Vitas Hospice Care Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born in Bogota, Colombia to Milciades and Cecilia (Molina) Quimbaya. He leaves behind his wife Ilona of 55 years, his sons, Christopher and Jonathan, and his granddaughter, Karlirose. He also leaves behind his sister Martha, his brothers, Billy, Jorge, and Hernando, as well as a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
When Carlos came to the United States, he continued his studies in Chemistry. Through his hard work, he earned a Bachelors of Arts and a Masters of Science from Southern Connecticut State University. He worked at Miles Laboratories in Research before moving to on to Boehringer Ingelheim. After retirement, he started to teach as an adjunct teacher of Southern Connecticut State University in the laboratories until May 2023. He touched many lives through his teaching and tutoring, as well as, gained several close friendships with those he worked with. Carlos will be deeply missed by those who have had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.
