Carleton Quint Obituary

Woodbury-

Carleton L. Quint, 101, of Woodbury, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital VITAS unit on January 12, 2023. He was the widower of Jane S. Quint.
Mr. Quint was born on December 31, 1921 in Yarmouth, Maine, son of the late Linnell J. and Ruth (Simonton) Quint.
He attended a one room school house in Yarmouth and then went to the Yarmouth Academy for High School. He quit after his sophomore year to go to work to help support the family during the Great Depression.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He joined the Navy in March of 1942 and after basic training was assigned to the battleship USS Indiana which was under construction at Newport News, VA. He left for the Pacific in November of 1942 and during his time on board, the USS Indiana was involved in the New Georgia Campaign and various islands in the Gilbert and Marshall Islands including the pre-invasion bombardment of Tarawa and Kwajalein islands. He was transferred to San Diego, CA in August of 1944, and was discharged October 10, 1945. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars since leaving the service.
He moved to Woodbury after his discharge and went to work at the North Woodbury Post Office. He was named Acting Postmaster at North Woodbury on January 1, 1946. He worked there until 1961, when he was named Postmaster of the new combined Woodbury Post Office. He served as Postmaster until he retired December 31, 1972. On January 1, 1973 he became Superintendent of the Woodbury Cemetery Association. He retired in 1986.
He was a member of King Solomon's Lodge since 1956 and in 2006 he was elected to the position of Worshipful Master. A position in which he served for a year. He was an active member of the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years, from 1951 to 1984, serving as Fire Chief from 1978 to 1980. After his retirement from the Fire Department, he served on the Board of Fire Commissioners for several years. 
He is survived by a son Jon H. Quint of Woodbury and his wife Liz, and a daughter, Pamela J. Quint of Andover, CT and her wife, Dawn, five grandchildren, Linda Hill, Karla Rinaldi, Kristen Mathieu, Matthew Bryant and Gerard Lapointe, and eight great-grandchildren, and four great great grand-children.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home, 2 School Street in Woodbury, CT. Church services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street Woodbury, CT. Burial will follow at the New North Cemetery.
