Carl Carlson Obituary

Watertown- Carl Ivar Carlson Jr., 67, of Watertown, CT joined the millions of previously deceased NY Giants and Mets fans on March 15, 2022. He passed at the Hospice Unit of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT.

Carl was born on October 25, 1954 in this same hospital. His parents were the late Marguerite “Peggy” (Worgan) Carlson, of Middlebury, CT and Carl Ivar Carlson Sr., of Waterbury, CT.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, together for 37 years, Elayne Grecenko Carlson of Watertown, CT, his daughter Erin Lea Carlson of Madison, CT, his sister Barbara Carlson Jalbert and husband Vincent, of East Lyme, CT, and his beloved mother in law, Lois Grecenko of Bethlehem, CT, his brother in law, James “Jim” Grecenko of Litchfield, Maine, and his sister in law, Tamara Hoffman of Keene, New Hampshire.

Carl is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Dawn Jalbert and Dana Jalbert Stauffer, daughters of Barb and Vin Jalbert , James Grecenko, son of Jim Grecenko, Gunner, Mischa, Molly, and George Hoffman Jr., children of Tamara Hoffman as well as several grandnephews and grandniece, Vin May, Joseph May, Nicholas Stauffer, Nikola Grecenko, and Tessa Stauffer.

Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by an older infant brother, Carl George Carlson, born full term but lived only 2 days.

Carl graduated from J.F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury, CT. He spent his entire career, working for 40 years, in the field of Civil Engineering as a Highway Construction Inspector. He retired from STV in March of 2020.

Carl was very much a family man who enjoyed spending time with his daughter Erin, who was the shining light of his life. He and his wife, Elayne, loved dining out and having fun with friends often. Carl was an uncle with a very generous heart. Many 4th of July picnics were held around the Carlson's pool. Carl loved making a giant slip-and-slide or setting up the volleyball net for friends and family to enjoy. Carl would also enjoy shooting pool or playing cards with friends and family.

The "Gentle Giant" was known for his wonderful wit and sense of humor. One of the most fun family times were when Carl would sit at his father’s drum set, playing as if he had many lessons, keeping great time to the music; but never having had one lesson in his life. He had a naturally gifted musical talent. Carl’s smile and laugh will always be with us.
