Bruce Muchalight Obituary

After 27 years, Bruce Elliot Muchalight was finally reunited with the love of his life, Penney Whittle Muchalight, on April 14th, 2020. Bruce passed peacefully at Buckingham Valley Rehab in Newton, PA.

Bruce was born in Waterbury and raised in Middlebury, CT. He began his education at “Little St. Margaret’s” and McTernans School for Boys. An intelligent young man, Bruce attended Taft School, Avon Old Farms, Crosby High School, and Cheshire Academy. Bruce would often tell his four excited daughters, Heidi, Christine, Eileen, and Gretchen, all about his adventures and misadventures that caused him to attend so many venerable institutions. Bruce also attended UConn, eventually leaving school to serve as Vice President at the family business, Gaess Manufacturing, which made fasteners during Waterbury’s manufacturing heyday.

As a young father, Bruce served as a part-time police officer, volunteer firefighter, and an ambulance driver in Middlebury, while balancing his job at Gaess Manufacturing. Serving his community in these ways and more brought him great joy.

After moving to Bethlehem, CT, Bruce and his wife Penney ran a children’s youth group, and later the 4-H clubs, teaching children and youth of all ages outdoorsmanship and sewing. Bruce was no stranger to outdoor work, and his family would often be found gardening, canning, and shoveling masses of snow. Bruce later moved his family to Woodbury, where he briefly owned a toy store lovingly called The Penney Doll. Bruce made a home in Southbury, CT, but would settle down permanently in Bucks County, PA, where he succumbed to his illnesses.

Bruce leaves behind his four daughters, Heidi Muchalight Utenis, Christine Muchalight Linhard, Eileen Muchalight Brunson, and Gretchen Muchalight Dossa, as well as eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Bruce will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Penney in Bethlehem Cemetery on Saturday, April 18th 2020. Munson Lovetere Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
