Betty Jane (Wilde) Coe, long time resident of Woodbury, CT. passed away peacefully on October 23, 2021 at The Cottage at Litchfield Hills in Torrington, CT, just shy of her 89th birthday.
Betty was born on November 28, 1932 to the late Emil and Martha Wilde. She grew up in Bristol CT and was a graduate of Bristol High School. After graduation, she moved to Terryville CT and worked as a secretary at Hartley Tool & Die in Thomaston Connecticut.
She met her future husband Charles A. Coe Jr. at a Grange dance and they were married in 1956. Betty and her late husband Charlie shared 50 years of marriage and raised their four children in Woodbury living next to Charlie's brother Albert and his family on what had been part of the family farm.
Betty loved Woodbury's historic charm and the friendships she formed there.
She worked at Village Fabric and Woodbury Drug when her children were young. Later, Betty spent many years as a companion/helper/caregiver for several residents at the Pomperaug Woods and Heritage Village.
Betty was a talented creative woman with many interests. From sewing to furniture refinishing to crafting and rubber stamping - she had so many projects and too little time. She especially looked forward to the holidays and making and delivering batches of her “secret recipe” cookies to family and friends.
Those who knew Betty will remember her outspoken manner, willingness to help others, love for conversation, and thrill of attending a good rummage sale or craft show. She should also be remembered for her dry wit, devotion to family and friends, and her love of nature; spending hours watching and feeding the birds outside her window. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren, also finding joy in attending their musical performances and sporting events.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Coe Jr. (Charlie) and her son, Charles A. Coe III (Chuck), brother, Emil and sister, Arlene.
Betty is survived by her daughter Debbie Coe and partner Kurt of Faribault, MN, her son Ward Coe of Woodbury, son Jonathan Coe and wife, Leah of Simsbury, Ct, and 2 grandchildren, Ryan Coe and Olivia Coe; Brother Arthur and Sister-in-law Esther Ludorf, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude to Betty’s loyal friends, the North Church congregation, and family who showed their concern, advice (which she did not always willingly accept) and support over the years always reminding her that the glass of life is half-full. We truly felt that she was always being looked after and cared for. We would also like to thank the caregivers at The Cottage at Litchfield Hills for the care and compassion they showed Betty.
