Bazil Grabovsky Obituary

Bazil Grabovsky, 91, of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 after a month-long struggle with pneumonia.

Born in Larksville, PA on September 20, 1929, he grew up in Edwardsville, PA, where he was an active member of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church. Throughout his childhood, Bazil was an excellent student and excelled in mathematics. He went on to receive diplomas from South Georgia Trade & Vocational School and Pennsylvania State University for Mechanical and Production Tool Design. He joined the army in 1951, and served with the 34th Regiment, 24th Infantry Division (Heavy Mortar) stationed in Japan during the Korean conflict.

When he returned to the states, he took a position at Bendix Corporation in Sidney, NY, where he met the love of his life, Clerinda (Cindy). They married in 1962, and moved to Detroit, Michigan when Bazil accepted a position with the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. He quickly rose through the corporation to become the Director of Real Estate, in Columbus, Ohio. After his retirement, he held several part time positions in kitchen design and sales.

He was a devout Christian, and faithfully attended church throughout his whole life. Although he was baptized Russian Orthodox and always identified himself as belonging to that faith tradition, he deeply appreciated the liturgy and music of his last church home, Christ the King Lutheran Church, in Newtown, CT.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wasil and Susan (nee Reto), sisters Martha (Gingo) and Irma, and brothers George and Eugene. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Clerinda May (nee Taylor), son Bazil and his wife Kristine (nee Graham), daughter Regina Doris and her spouse, Laird Ottman, grandchildren Bazil Graham Edwin Grabovsky, Virginia Taylor Grabovsky, Doris Elizabeth Ottman, and Lois Rei Ottman, and his sister Amelia (Berti), as well as many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private service at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Newtown, CT. Burial will be held in the spring at the East Guilford Cemetery in Sidney, NY. Please direct donations to Whiskers Pet Rescue, Southbury, CT (www.WhiskersPetRescue.org) or to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
