Anne Casey Obituary

Anne Casey, beloved spouse, mother, Mimi, sister, aunt, and friend to many passed away at home on April 7, 2021 surrounded by the people who loved her most.  She was born on November 10, 1955 in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Media, PA. Anne raised her family in Vermont and Maine before settling in Woodbury, CT with her soulmate and best friend Tom Greto.  She attended Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA and later graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine while working full time, volunteering, and raising her young family. Anne worked over thirty-years in medical management, most recently as the practice manager of Naugatuck Valley Cardiovascular Associates. She was a dedicated and successful professional.

Anne preferred to be outdoors whenever possible, and gardening was a passion. Her gardens overflowed with flowers, birds, squirrels, chipmunks, and the occasional bear. She loved all wildlife but had a particular affinity for birds and waterfowl. At the start of each Spring migration, Anne would spot the first appearance of a Grosbeak, Red-Winged Blackbird, Merganser or Egret, and excitedly update her notes. An avid hiker, Anne made regular visits to Flanders Nature Center, Steep Rock Preserve and Lake Waramaug. She loved sports, cycling, and competing with her family, whether in a foot race, badminton, or arm wrestle. In whatever she was doing, Anne was laughing and giving.

Anne was a prolific, award-winning knitter and lifelong artist. She favored painting trees, birds and family, sending hand-painted Christmas cards every year to relatives and friends. Rarely in front of the camera, she was a talented photographer who created beautiful photo albums, books, and calendars for her family to cherish. Anne’s greatest accomplishment is her beautiful daughters and in 2015 she became the proudest of Mimi’s to her first grandchild.  She is survived by Tom Greto (spouse), daughters Meeghan Casey (Sean Tennant), Elizabeth Smith (Tom Smith), grandchildren Ellyson Smith and Axel Smith, beloved Jennafer Groswith, siblings Michael (Suzanne) Hanlon, Kathleen Hanlon, Patrice Hanlon (Chris Watt), Connie (Neal) Sullivan, Terry Hanlon, and Maura Hanlon, Griffy (dog), Ziti (cat), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews who all loved and cherished her as Aunt Anne. Anne was pre-deceased by her parents James and Sally Hanlon of Media, PA.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Anne’s memory to the Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy, 55 Duck Pond Road, Litchfield, CT 06488.  Services will be held on Saturday June 12th at 1:00pm at the Lourdes in Litchfield Shrine at 50 Montfort Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
