Andrew E. Scoville passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday March 21, 2020 in Southbury, CT. He is survived by his sister Grace Scoville McClain of Wallingford, his daughter Laura Scoville of Sunderland, MA, and son Robert Scoville and his wife Kathy of Fairfield, CT as well as 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was born in Danbury, CT on November 24th 1930 and raised in Southbury living in a home his father converted from a one-room schoolhouse during the depression. From humble beginnings he went to the University of Connecticut and served in the Air Force attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He met the love of his life and married Ellen Moller in 1954 and they were inseparable until her death in 2012.
He was a prolific engineer with an inventive mind serving as the project engineer for NASA’s Lunar Module guidance system at a young age, filing many patents and serving as a senior engineer at firms such as Hamilton Standard, Stanley and Timex. He was an avid outdoorsman, conservationist, and forester. After living in Ellington, CT, and Topsfield, MA, he and Ellen moved to Woodbury in 1980 where they lived until 2013 bringing him back to the area where he spent his childhood and where his parents, grandparents and many cousins lived. There he was an active member of the South Britain Congregational Church.
He was a kind and generous man with a great sense of humor who was adored by everyone he touched and is sorely missed.
He will be buried in South Britain Cemetery next to Ellen and his parents. The service to be held at South Britain Cemetery is currently scheduled for June 27, 2020 at 11:00 am but is subject to changes in travel restrictions
