Allan Tarbox Obituary

Allan Tarbox was born November 26, 1945 in Waterbury, CT, and was a lifelong resident of Southbury, CT. His golfing buddies would laugh when he called himself a native.
As a young man, he worked for the Hawkins Company in South Britain. On his days off he loved to help his friends soup up their cars’ motors. At the age of 13, he took his father's new lawn mower's motor and made a go-kart out of it. He would race down Flood Bridge Road much to Bill Platts cows’ dismay. He moved on to work as a drafting engineer for Pratt and Whitney in Stratford, CT., leaving to work at the Woodbury Telephone Company.

Allan graduated from Waterbury State Techincal College in 1979 and then went on to graduate from Post in 1982.
He worked 55 years in the Telecommunications field, spending 54 years at the Woodbury Telephone Co. as their Chief Engineer. In 2000, after the buyout of SNET, they moved him to New Haven. He always said the best view of New Haven was in his rear view mirror. In 2007, AT&T bought them out and he retired.
In retirement he became a skilled craftsman, making raised paneling and woodwork for his ancestral home in South Britain, turning wooden bowls and making reproduction furniture.

An avid golfer, he belonged to the Heritage Golf Club, where he shot a hole-in-one at the seventh hole. He loved photography and specialized in birds and landscapes. He said he had to take 100 photos to get one that was good enough.
With the help of his wife, he became a gourmet chef. He often entertained guests and family, who feasted on the quail he hunted in the South. He also served up Turducken for Thanksgiving, beef wellington for Christmas, and other delicious delicacies.

Allan is predeceased by his father Wayne Tarbox, mother Vivian Platt Tarbox, and sister Brenda Tarbox Russo. He is survived by in-laws Virginia Behuniak Barns of Massachusetts, James Behuniak of Bethlehem, Connecticut, and Helene Larson of Neveda, as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Sandra Behuniak Tarbox of Southbury, a daughter Rebecca Frohn of Exeter, NH, granddaughter Sophie Becker, grandson Andrew Becker and his wife Danielle Huffaker, Christopher Becker and his wife Ana Santos Becker, and his great-granddaughter Emma Jane.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to South Britain Cemetery Association, c/o Cathy Summers 148 Georges Hill Rd Southbury, CT 06488.
