Alexandria "Jean" Kharma

November 26, 1940 ~ April 4, 2021 (age 80)

WOODBURY – Alexandria “Jean” Kharma, 80, of Woodbury, passed away at home (or per her wishes, ‘was discontinued’) on April 4, 2021.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Gregory and Anna Palmer, and grew up on her Grammy’s farm in Hellertown, Pa. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in Russian language from Penn State University. While working at the medical center of Temple University in Philadelphia, she met her beloved husband of 44 years, the late Khalil M. Kharma.

Jean lived in Pennsylvania, California, and her husband’s native Lebanon before settling in Connecticut.

In addition to raising her three children, she supported her husband in his medical practice, and later found pleasure working with the ladies in cosmetics at Lord & Taylor. Always an inquiring mind, she enjoyed studying languages and art history. She loved opera and jazz. And she loved animals, especially “all the cats she has known”.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joanne Serfass of Pennsylvania, and her eldest son, Philip “Toffy” Kharma, also of Woodbury. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie of Los Angeles; her son, Kenneth, wife Andrea and granddaughter Faye, also of Los Angeles; her nephews, Thomas and Robert Serfass; and a niece, Cynthia Buskirk of Pennsylvania.

Funeral arrangements are private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Animals For Life (animalsforlife.org) or the animal charity of your choice.
