Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear wife, sister and mother, Ivonne, who lost her battle with Parkinson's on June 25th in her birthland, Guayaquil, Ecuador.  Ivonne, who retired in 2013  has been a resident of Southbury for the past 25 years, alongside her husband, always taking pride in her beautiful home.

She was the glue that bound our family: cherished life mate to her husband Galo Arevalo for the past 53 years, devoted mother to Alison Arevalo-Hoefer and Julissa Bonnie Weirda, loving grandmother to Sabrina Hoefer, Sam Arevalo-Hoefer, Devin Krosky, Kaleigh Krosky and Lacie Krosky, and beloved sister to Nelly Giannina Gonzales, Evelyn Heredia Eckerle and Carlos Heredia.

Ivonne was the ultimate hostess – everyone was always invited to her house for a dinner, a party, or a sleepover.  She was the consummate party planner, creating elaborate cakes for all occasions and extravagant meals to entice and delight her guests. Her cakes were not only visual masterpieces but uniquely delicious.  Walking into the kitchen, one could smell the aroma of any delicious meal she was preparing with only 2 ingredients found in the fridge.  With the palate of a foodie and an eye for pretty decorations, she could easily replicate a dish or décor she found while traveling and somehow recreate it even better than the original

Ivonne was always in contact with her cousins, friends, and relatives.  She was known for her regular calls in which she would discuss the latest family news, and you could always count on her to be a great listener.  She was adventurous, creative, handy, never afraid to pick up a tool or new gadget.  She loved to travel and try new foods, and she always embraced new fashion trends.

She was a close confidant to her sisters and a caring and affectionate mother to her children.  Her grandchildren will recall her as the family photographer, always asking for another pose with beautiful results and cherished memories that we can all look back on.  She was unique, she was extraordinary, and she will be dearly missed.

A message from Ivonne's husband:

Sleep in peace, beautiful love, your presence will always be marked in my body, mind and heart until the end of my existence.
