NEWTOWN- Wilmer J. Mathuren, 93, of Newtown, died Sunday June 16, 2013
At Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of Anne (Teslicka)(Zayatz) Mathuren.
Mr. Mathuren was born September 20, 1919 in Acushnet, MA, son of the late Samuel Joseph Mathuren and Margaret (Blackburn) Mathuren. He has resided in Newton for the last six years, previously living in Dingmans Ferry, PA. He was a machinist in the paper industry, having worked at Century Envelope Company for many years. Mr. Mathuren was a US Army veteran having served during WW II and attaining the rank of Sergeant. He received the American Service Metal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. While in Pennsylvania, Mr. Mathuren was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and served as an usher at St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Lucille Muscarella of Old Lyme, CT, Linda Koller of Southbury, Joyce Stapleton of Freehold, NJ and Veronica Zayatz of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Germaine (Gobeil) Mathuren, a son Richard and two sisters, Alice and Blanche.
Burial with military honors will be in Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY.

Services: A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Oxford, CT.
Visitation: Calling hours were held Wednesday June 19th at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, Southbury.
