WOODBURY- Dr. William P. Whelan, Jr. 86, of Woodbury, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Flynn) Whelan.
Dr. Whelan was born September 22, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late William P. and Clara (Giuffre) Whelan, Sr. He was a senior research scientist for Uniroyal, where he worked for 30 years. He was a member of Sigma Xi, the scientific research society and was a US Airforce Veteran of WW II.
Dr. Whelan resided in Woodbury since 1972 and was a communicant of St. Teresa if Avila Church, a member of its' Men's group and the choir. He was an avid landscaper and accomplished pianist. He traveled the world and also learned many different languages.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Whelan of San Diego, CA and William P. Whelan, III of NYC, NY, a daughter, Christine Whelan of NYC, NY and a sister, Doris Coneys of New Milford.

Funeral: St. Teresa's Church
Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, December 19th at 10 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church.
Visitation: Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 18th from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Woodbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 2 School St.
