IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William H
Starchak Jr.
April 7, 1932 – February 5, 2023
Southbury- William Harry Starchak Jr., 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, February 5, 2023. He was the husband of the late Carolyn Rae (Miles) Starchak.
William was born in Derby on April 7, 1932 to the late William Harry Starchak and Margaret Etta (Fleming) Starchak. He was a lifelong resident of the family farm on Main Street South in Southbury. Many will recall him for the vivid memories of his adventures, work stories, old Southbury history, and the many folks that passed through and stopped by the farm.
William was fondly known as "Snook" to his parents and his family, and also "Star" by his in-laws and family, a nickname that became a symbol in his attire, trinkets, and jewelry. The American flag was another endearing favorite of his. He grew up with a love for cows, horses, cars and old farm equipment. He was an avid fan of car racing of all types, helping out with early midgets and later, going to NASCAR events. He enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit friends, peruse the flea markets for license plates, attend Daytona races and bask in the sun of the Keys. Other favorite destinations included the beloved Lake Sunapee and heading out West. He enjoyed a round of golf and attending the ladies pro golf tournaments in Heritage Village.
William worked at a variety of jobs including building the Shepaug Dam and later in life, spent 25 years at the Southbury Post Office, a family tradition.
William enjoyed going out for a meal with friends and family, his favorite being breakfast. And, no matter where he went, the ladies would always comment on his iconic, sharp dress shirts!
William is survived by his son Kevin; daughter Robin and her significant other, Willi Alexander; his grandchildren Kelsey and her husband, Matt; Hattie and her husband, Donnie; along with great grandchildren Elijah, Noah, Brynn, London, Sailor, Donnie, and Miles.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in William's name may be made to the Southbury Ambulance Association, 68 Georges Hill Rd Southbury, CT 06488 or The Southbury Fire Department 461 Main Street South Southbury, CT 06488.
