William Bill G. Nemeth, 88, of Scott Swamp Road died Thursday August 10 at the Southington Care Facility. Bill was born July 12, 1918 in Allentown, Pa son of Frank and Rose (Zamolyi) Nemeth. When he was 9 years old, his mother passed away and his father and step mother Esther, subsequently raised him along with their five other children. The family lived in Brooklyn NY and Jamesburg, NJ, where Bill developed a love for the land of his parent's farm. He served with the United States Army during World War Two where he received training in truck repair and maintenance. After marrying Edith Balogh in 1943, he continued his career as an automotive mechanic in Sloatsburg, NY. They moved to Newark, NJ in 1947 and from 1958 to 1964 owned and operated a thriving service station in Neptune, NJ. He ultimately retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co. after 15 years as an automotive sales specialist. After retirement Bill and Edith spent many years traveling throughout the US and Canada in their RV.
A 45 year resident of Neptune, Bill worked tirelessly as a volunteer. He served as an officer of the Neptune Library Association, the Lions Club and Atonement Lutheran Church, Asbury Park and held membership in the American Legion. For many years he planted and maintained the flower gardens around the Neptune Senior Center.
Bill will be remembered as a humble, honest, generous, kind and loving man who cared deeply for his family, friends, and community. Besides his wife he is survived by 4 children and their spouses, George Nemeth and Joyce St. Pierre of Harwich, MA, Helen and Harvey Boxer of Southbury, Ct, Richard and Lita Nemeth of Lafayette, CA, Vicki and Kevin Lane of Duluth, GA. He also leaves his sister, Margaret Katko of Somerset, NJ, twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
To honor and celebrate Bill's life, family and friends plan a service in New Jersey at a future date to be announced. The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson - Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Atonement, First Ave. and Heck St., Asbury Park, NJ 07712 or to a charity of your choice.
