William "Billy" Michael Cicio, II passed away peacefully on March 9, 2016, at his home in Washington, Connecticut, following a long struggle with cancer. He leaves behind his parents, Susan and William, as well as his siblings, Alyssa and Ryan, and his beloved grandfather William J. Cicio, beloved aunts Christine Standridge, Nancy Cassano, Clare Matis, Laura Healion, Virginia Matis, beloved uncles, Michael Matis, Michael Standridge, Anthony Cassano, Kevin Healion and beloved cousins Amy, Andrew, Anthony, Cami, Caroline, Elizabeth, Jessica, James Jae, Matthew and Sean.
Billy was born in Huntington, NY, March 21, 1995, the first day of spring. He attended several schools early on, while struggling to overcome his dyslexia. He graduated with honors from The Forman School, Litchfield, CT in 2013, where he was elected to the National Honor Society and was selected to be a school ambassador and became the captain of both the whitewater kayaking team and the boat building team. He played bass and guitar in the school's jazz and rock bands. As a senior, he traveled to the Costa Rica to participate in the school's rain forest program. He was a leader at Forman where he was universally liked and respected.
Billy's wanted help people and protect those who could not protect themselves. He chose to pursue a carrier in law enforcement and was accepted to one of the the top rated criminal justice program at Albany. He decided to remain close to home and enrolled at Western Connecticut State University instead. He was diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma in December, 2013 and had to withdraw from school. He suffered and struggled mightily with his disease. He is now resting at peace in Heaven with his beloved grandparents, Helene Matis, Michael Matis and Helen Cicio.
Billy was an amazing child and young man. He faced adversity, his entire life, with unbelievable strength and courage. He touched many lives in his all too brief time on this earth. There are no words that can describe how much he will be missed.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in memory of William 'Billy' Cicio II to the Joseph Ahmed Foundation - an organization established with the purpose of conducting research on Ewing's Sarcoma and bridging the gap for the almost non-existing viable effective treatments available for Ewing's. Billy and Joseph met at Sloan Memorial Hospital, at the time of diagnosis and initial treatments, and formed a special bond that will carry on to eternity. Both warriors have now earned their wings, but their families and friends will continue to honor their memory through the work of the Foundation.
